Notes to Self

...while staining and sealing an unfinished pine armoire:

1. You are not allowed to purchased unfinished furniture ever again. When you bought this armoire you thought you'd finish it right away in some lovely custom finish. It's been five years! FIVE YEARS!

2. Gloves are your friends.

3. Wa-ter based. Don't even THINK about the other stuff again.

4. NO MORE PROJECTS. Maybe someday when the kids grow up you can swamp yourself with extra work and still maintain your sanity, but when you have four kids in the house--including a high-maintenance 3-year-old and a nursing 4-month-old--you have too many other things to do.

5. Back to the purchasing unfinished furniture restriction: it is NOT cheaper to buy unfinished--especially when it takes three trips to the hardware store to finally get the right stuff.

6. Bit off more than you can chew, much?

7. Get some exercise, sheesh. Seriously? Your butt should not be this sore from finishing a stupid piece of furniture.

8. Staining and sealing a giant armoire does NOT take three days. Try three weeks. Three weeks of house guests, a family reunion, and a new school year starting...what were you THINKING???

9. Actually, it's turning out pretty decently. Huh, what do you know.

10. You have a great husband who a) puts up with your crazy projectness and b) finishes up for you by putting the thing back together and even cleaning up your mess when you finally decided you'd better spend some time on things like laundry and digging out of the accumulating house filth. Wow, you're a lucky girl.

11. Now you have to paint the fireplace because it doesn't match. It'll be a really quick and easy project. Promise.

The armoire looks so good, but I know what you mean about projects! I am at that point too. No projects for a while until I get my house organized. Homework with three kids is enough for me.

You freaking crack me up!! But I must say, it does look professional! My hubby will clean up my messes too, but oh do I hear about it! Maybe you should downgrade the projects....you know...maybe a craft project....not painting armiors or bedrooms or walls of any kind. ;)Even though they look great when they are done!

Ditto to everyone else's comments - you're amazing! I have ONE kid and I have a hard time getting things like dishes accomplished. It looks great, though, congrats!

I waited until I was an empty nester to attempt any projects that took more than a couple of hours. I'm impressed! It looks great!
